How many shop light fixtures and how far apart would I hang them?

I have a photography studio where I do digital work. And I hang photographs on the walls, which is what I need your lighting to illuminate. The room is 32’ long x 16’ wide. The ceilings are 13’ high. I only need to light the walls - and one wall only partially - this is the wall space I need lighting for: one wall 10’, one wall 32’, and 2 walls 16’.

This is the fixture I am interested in (the one I saw in my friends’ studio): NorthLux™ 95 CRI LED Shop Light Fixture. I want a daylight bulb, not too blue, so would you advise 5000K color? How many fixtures and how far apart would I hang them? How far does the light spread? How far away from the wall should they hang - 4’?

Based on the details provided, we would likely recommend the NorthLux™ 95 CRI LED Shop Light Fixture in the 5000K option. If another color temperature winds up being preferable, simply reach out and we will gladly provide you with a prepaid return label for any unneeded products.

Regarding spacing, we typically recommend placing the fixtures no further apart than the distance between the light source and the illumination target. As the ceilings have a height of 13', we would suggest spacing the LED Shop Light Fixtures no more than 13' apart from each other.

As such, we would likely recommend a total of five LED Shop Light Fixtures for your installation. Based on my rough calculations, we would recommend 1 fixture for the 10' wall, 3 fixtures for the 32' wall, and 2 fixtures for the 16' wall.

I need you to tell me some more about the calculation of spacing the fixtures 13’ apart based on 13’ ceilings. To clarify, the lighting only needs to illuminate the walls. Also, if the fixtures hang 4’ below the ceiling, how far away from the wall should they be placed - 4’?

If I space the fixtures 13’ apart, then I will need to order 8 fixtures — 2 fixtures for each 16-foot wall, (there are 2 - 16 foot walls), as well as 3 fixtures for the 32’ wall and 1 fixture for the 10’ wall.

To clarify, the optimal spacing between the LED Shop Light fixtures should not be greater than the distance between the fixture and the floor (or illumination target).

If your fixtures are installed to hang 4 feet from the 13-foot ceilings, we would then recommend spacing each fixture no further than 9 feet apart. We recommend installing the fixtures roughly 4.5 feet from the wall.

Given the above, we would slightly adjust my order quantity recommendation to 1 fixture for the 10-foot wall, 4 fixtures for the 32-foot wall, and 2 fixtures for the 16-foot wall.

We would also recommend purchasing more fixtures than your initial estimates may require so that pre-installation tests can be performed to see how many fixtures would be required to illuminate the space to your liking.
