Our LED strips have the best spectrum

Quality photography and cinematography starts with quality lighting. It's actually quite simple - most light sources simply don't have all colors of the spectrum, even if it appears white.

If you don't have the color in your light source to begin with, how will it show up on camera?

Our LED strips are bright

Regular LED strips are designed for accent lighting, not for illumination. But, for photography and film lighting, we know how important it is for lights to be bright.

That's why we've re-designed the LED strip to have enough footcandles and light output for all of your projects. Even with all this light, the LED strip is still cool to the touch!

With 360 lumens per foot, a single reel can go a long way in lighting up your set or scene.

Our LED strips are versatile

A flexible light? That's right - with flexible circuits, you can break free into the third dimension. You can place these LED strips along all kinds of curved and uneven surfaces. Break free from the limitations of "linear" lighting.

The FilmGrade Spec

Higher power = higher brightness - Our LED strips run at more than 2x the power of standard LED strips. To accomodate this, we specified a PCB width of 10 mm, compared to 8 mm for competing products. This provides additional circuitry and power capacity necessary for our higher power setting.

LED quantity & quality - We have specified 120 LEDs per meter rather than the standard 60 LEDs. More LEDs means more brightness. What's more, we only specify the highest quality diodes and phosphor materials to ensure maximum light quality, efficiency, and longevity.

Superior substrate materials - In order to ensure quality and stability, we added extra copper to our substrate (3 oz). Most competitors will try to cut down on cost and only use 1 oz copper. Additionally, white soldermask is used to ensure high reflectance when used in conjunction with a diffuser.

What's in the box?

Each reel of LED strip comes packaged in a static-proof bag, with the LED strip wound up in a plastic reel.

Simply begin pulling on the loose end to unravel the LED strip.

What accessories do I need?

At the bare minimum, you will need:

A constant voltage power supply that matches the voltage specification and power draw (amperage) of the LED strips.

An adaptor to connect the LED strip to the power supply unit.

How to calculate power supply requirements

The recommended power supplies above are based on our assumption that you will use the entire LED strip reel as a continuous strip. If you decide to use a smaller segment or search for your own power supply units, use the following method to calculate the necessary power draw:

Step 1: Determine the length of LED strip you will connect to a single power supply

Step 2: Determine the voltage and amps per foot (or meter) for the LED strip. The Waveform FilmGrade LED strip amps per foot are:

  • 12V: 0.50 Amps per foot (1.5 Amps per meter)
  • 24V: 0.25 Amps per foot (0.75 Amps per meter)

Step 3: Calculate the total power draw in Amps using the formula [LED Strip Amps] = [Amps per foot] x [Length of LED strip]

Step 4: Find a power supply that has an amperage rating for more than 20% of the LED strip power draw calculated in Step 3.

Example: What power supply amperage is necessary to power 10 feet of the 24V LED strips?

Step 1: Length = 10 ft

Step 2: Voltage = 24V, amps per foot

Step 3: Total power draw = 0.25 Amps x 10 feet = 2.5 Amps

Step 4: Minimum power supply amperage = 2.5 Amps x 120% = 3 Amps

How to wire up the power connectors

Step 1: Loosen both screws on the power connector using a screw driver

Step 2: Insert the ends of the red and black wires into the receptacle. Be sure to plug it in with the polarity correct. (Red wire in the +, black wire in the -).

Step 3: Tighten the screws and ensure the wires are secure

Step 4: Plug your power supply into the plug receptacle.
